They believe in creation. They believe in challenging the status quo and overcoming those challenges. They work day in and day out with an empty stomach to feed those who follow them. They fall down, yet they rise stronger than ever. They dream with their eyes open. They are ENTREPRENEURS. Entrepreneurship is believed to be a life style. Celebrating the same life style, 16 budding startups from Bangalore came under one roof to celebrate the spirit of not only entrepreneurship but also sportsmanship in the STARTUP CRICKET LEAGUE, held in Bengaluru on 6th of August. With international startups like AZUGA, taking part in the event, it was indeed a battle which unleashed on the pitch field where all the entrepreneurs and their teams could take a day off from their busy schedules and take a shot at cricket.
The environment was filled with excitement of the students of various B- Schools like
SYMBIOSIS SCHOOL OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION and IBI who were invited to volunteer the event. With the cheers of the teams the event was inaugurated by Miss. Neillima Poduta, a young lady who succeeded in climbing the Mount Everest even after facing a near to death experience. What followed were 8 Pre- quarter matches where 16 startups playing against each other in league matches, in which 8 startups went to the quarter finals. Followed by 4 startup teams which went to the semi finals. Racing to the finals were two teams AZUGA and HAPPAY, which made the audience bite their nails in nervousness as the field came alive with players who showed the same passion and dedication as players like Virat Kholi and M.S Dhoni show. AZUGA took the trophy home.
Startup Cricket League, was not just a play ground. It turned into a modern day Gurukul when the startups not only got to meet and shake hands with big time investors from organizations like AXILOR VENTURES, INVENTUS CAPITAL, IDEIN VENTURES, UNITUS SEED FUND, but also pitch their startups in front of them in the STARTUP PITCH. With panel discussions on topics like ‘NEXT BIG WHAT’ and ‘IDEAS TO VENTURE’, various entrepreneurs got a prospect to widen their horizon of thinking and also learn about what investors are looking for in an idea. Various innovative entrepreneurs got the opportunity to introduce their products to the world as they showcased and demonstrated their products in various stalls.
Mr. SAI KIRAN GUNDA, the founder of SCL was very correct in saying that “SCL is a very powerful platform for startups to interact with each other and connect to make synergies”. Although the event centered on cricket, the real reason behind the event was for all startups, to get to know each other, learn from each other, connect with each other and expand their sea of opportunities. It was a day when everybody won. The investors won, when they found some brilliant ideas for their money. The students who came to volunteer the event won when they learnt a lifetime of experiences in a short span of one day. The entrepreneurs won big time, when they realized that ‘ play ground ‘ can also be a place where your business finds its next higher destination. Most of all Bengaluru as a whole won when, all the makers and innovators came under one roof. All this and much more in the Game Of Cricket.
