Comedy is an art loved by all but practiced by a few. Let’s admit it, it’s a helluva herculean task to make someone laugh and yet laughing is the only effortless exercise we can let loose and probably one of the few moments in life we are our true selves.
Punchliners is a promising emerging player that aims to revolutionise the meaning of stand-up comedy in India. To this startup comedy platform, laughter is the one product people crave but don’t know they seriously lack in life. That’s why the Punchliners are trying to raise awareness and create demand for comedy in India.
The comedy market for India is on the rise at the moment and still there have been ventures that had to be scrapped off even before they could launch due to lack of a systematic approach and inability to serve customer’s choice. Punchliners founded in 2016 by Mr. A. Anand is unique in its own way. The comedy staging venture intends to spread awareness on the need for more humour in life and then administer this much needed dose of humour to the nation one audience at a time.
The venture targets to build upon the hot opportunity in the stand-up comedy sector that has caught the nation’s interest most recently. It is a team of seven creative minds in Delhi and two in each operational city that hosts their shows. Delhi and the population from other metro cities have already wet their toes in the comic scene which further encourages the venture into surfacing as a supreme player. The Punchliners have been in Delhi for a year now hosting 70 comedy events in 30 days.
The comedy company has already acquired around 20,000 artists in 12 months and has organized 1500 private and public shows. The creators of this platform want to place this brand as a distinctive proposal to its target audience in the 18-40 age bracket. Their next course of action is to tickle their way into major metro cities then penetrate tier 2 cities.
Their unique proceedings include hiring an artist, making them travel through the country while hosting a distinct number of shows. It has not only worked with established stand-up comedians but is also a stage for open mic events hosted by upcoming talent.
The shows are tailor made depending on who the artist is, artist’s popularity and target audience to make sure the comedy delivered will have the desired effect of entertainment and laughter. A few famous artists who have starred under the Punchliners banner are Amit Tandon, Jeeveshu, Niti Palta and Sorabh Pant.
To make things a lot easier for everyone involved, buying tickets for Punchliners’ live comedy shows can be done online on any major show booking site. The venture strategizes to soon open up comedy clubs to make sure the art of stand-up comedy gets the respect it deserves.
