Kollam Youth Gets 1,000,000 for Helping Facebook

Arun S. Kumar is a 20 year old from Kollam with a knack for sniffing out bugs in pages. The engineering student from MES Institute of Technology and Management, Chathannoor was paid approximately Rs.10.70 lakh by Facebook after reporting a kink in the Facebook’s coding.

If the weakness was to be manipulated by a malicious hacker it would take a mere 10 seconds for them to gain control of Facebook Business Manager.

Arun reported the bug on August 29th and it was fixed by Facebook by September 6th. The social networking giant began this bounty programme in 2011. The program is meant to encourage and reward anyone reporting bugs, kinks, weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the site.

This white hat hacker from has been rewarded about Rs. 30.85 lakh just in the past three years for reporting bugs including a bounty from Google. What’s more Facebook will also be inducting him to the Facebook hall of fame for white hat hackers and is so far the only Indian to receive this honor.

Somebody give this genius a job!
