Lessons: Unacademy Cofounder Once Applied to Flipkart

Life has a way of coming full circle sometimes. The symmetry this brings is at times exhilarating. Gaurav Munjal applied for an internship with Flipkart when he was still in university. Although he never made it big at Flipkart, five years down the road Munjal managed to get the very foundation of Flipkart, Sachin and Binny Bansal to sit up and notice him.

The company Munjal helped found and one he is currently CEO of, Unacademy announced in August 2016 that it had secured 1 million dollars from Flipkart cofounders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal and another pioneering entrepreneur, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

Udemy is an online education platform with free access to preparation videos and courses for an array of exams and topics. If you look close enough at the photos above, you will see that Munjal had mentioned the Unacademy initiative on his application to Flipkart even back in 2011.

So what’s the takeaway here? While the coincidence that the very company founders where he applied to as an intern now are investing in him is intriguing, it is just that, a coincidence. We feel the lesson here is that passion and perseverance will help you reach any goal you set your heart on. Unacademy is not an overnight success, it was something Munjal and the cofounders were working on for several years - and they are still growing.

So never give up, never take rejection personally. If you keep trying life has a way of rallying around you to help you make your dreams come true.
