LegalCare's Mission To Make Legal Wellness A Core Employee Benefit

In conversation with Sreerupa Chowdhury, Founder of Legalcare.io, she revealed that the inspiration for LegalCare’s Employee Legal Wellness Program stemmed from recognising the lack of accessible legal support available to India’s workforce

Legal support is often viewed as an external necessity, engaged only in critical times or complex scenarios. But Sreerupa Chowdhury, Founder of LegalCare, is reimagining this concept by embedding legal wellness directly into India’s corporate ecosystem. Launched as employee-focused legal wellness platform, LegalCare aims to make professional legal support as accessible as health and wellness programs for employees across India. "In a country like ours, where navigating legal frameworks can be daunting, having immediate, trusted support can make all the difference," Chowdhury explains.

LegalCare’s platform allows employees to access legal guidance through two unique modules: official and personal. This dual-layered approach addresses both professional and personal legal needs. “We realised that legal wellness could reduce stress and improve productivity by offering employees a reliable support system,” shares Chowdhury, adding that the company aims to give employees peace of mind, whether they’re resolving a workplace policy question or dealing with personal legal concerns.

The concept for LegalCare’s Employee Legal Wellness Program stemmed from recognising that India’s workforce lacks ready access to legal guidance. “Too often, people have nowhere to turn for quick, trusted legal help, particularly in workplace contexts,” says Chowdhury. “Our platform fills that gap by being a holistic resource for everything from basic HR queries to in-depth legal support.”

Tech-Enabled Approach To Legal Wellness

LegalCare’s platform harnesses the power of technology to offer seamless and instant support. Employees log into the platform via an app and, for workplace-related inquiries, interact with a generative AI chatbot designed to address questions related to HR policies or legal issues at work. “The AI-driven chatbot is available 24/7, allowing employees to find immediate answers without the wait,” Chowdhury explains. "If the chatbot can't resolve a query, it escalates to the corporate legal team, ensuring thorough follow-through."

For personal legal matters, employees can access a separate module, where they can select services, upload relevant documents, and consult directly with legal professionals. “Our approach is to provide tailored support for individual needs. From document reviews to consultations, we offer legal assistance in a format that suits each user," Chowdhury notes. LegalCare also offers workshops designed to build awareness within organisations, helping employees understand their rights and the resources available to them.

Blending AI And Human Expertise

With a unique blend of AI-driven assistance and human expertise, LegalCare sets itself apart from traditional legal support services. “We are the first in India to integrate both HR policy guidance and personal legal support under one roof, creating a comprehensive support system for employees,” says Chowdhury. “The goal is to make legal wellness as natural a benefit as health insurance.” LegalCare's personal module currently supports criminal law queries via chatbot, with plans to expand to other legal areas.

In addition to AI-driven services, the company places strong emphasis on privacy. “We ensure complete data security and transparency,” Chowdhury emphasises. “Employee queries and service requests are treated with utmost confidentiality. Only high-level trends are shared with companies, so individual privacy is never compromised,” she adds.

Gaining Momentum Amid Corporate India

Since its founding, LegalCare has seen rapid traction, with interest from companies across the country. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many employees telling us how much they value having access to on-demand legal support,” Chowdhury shares. About one-third of LegalCare users are repeat visitors, attesting to the value they find in the platform. "We’re thrilled to be coming out of stealth mode and expanding to more organisations," she adds.

To date, LegalCare’s chatbot service is free for individual users seeking basic criminal law information at ask.legalcare.app, and the company is launching a podcast titled ‘Future of Work’ to engage industry leaders in discussions about legal wellness. "We want to shift mindsets and show how critical legal support is to overall employee well-being," Chowdhury notes. In partnership with NHRD in Bangalore, the company is set to release a whitepaper on legal wellness as part of employee benefits at a thought leadership event later this month.

Challenges And Future Vision

Like any pioneering model, LegalCare faces challenges, particularly around building awareness in the market. “Legal wellness is a new concept in India, and it requires educating both employees and employers,” Chowdhury explains. Traditional HR systems can also be slow to adopt change, but LegalCare is helping companies see the value through data-driven insights. “We help companies understand recurring legal concerns among employees, which can then inform their compliance efforts,” she says.

Looking ahead, LegalCare has ambitious plans for growth. With a focus on geographic expansion across India, the company aims to broaden its service portfolio and add new features to its AI chatbot. “Our vision is to make LegalCare a staple in corporate India, with every employee having access to reliable legal guidance,” Chowdhury shares. “There’s a huge opportunity here to support mental health and productivity by alleviating legal stress.”

LegalCare is spearheading a movement toward comprehensive employee support that includes legal wellness as a core benefit. With India’s workforce facing unique challenges, this platform meets a critical need. "We believe that access to legal resources can transform workplace culture and improve mental health outcomes," Chowdhury states. “Our mission is to empower employees by giving them the legal tools they need to succeed—both professionally and personally.”
