Blinkit, the on-demand delivery platform owned by Zomato, has unveiled Bistro, a new 10-minute food delivery service designed to cater to the growing demand for rapid food delivery. This new service, available as a standalone app, marks Blinkit's official entry into the instant food delivery market. While the exact areas served by Bistro are still unclear, the initiative is a significant step for Blinkit as it pivots beyond its traditional focus on grocery delivery.
The introduction of Bistro comes after Zomato’s previous attempt at quick food delivery with its service, Instant, which was discontinued. With Bistro, Blinkit aims to leverage its existing infrastructure to offer customers food within minutes, competing with other industry players in the fast-growing quick-commerce space.
The quick-commerce market is becoming increasingly competitive, with platforms scrambling to capture different market segments. Swiggy recently introduced Bolt, its own quick food delivery service, while Zepto is developing a separate app for its Café service. Blinkit’s move to introduce Bistro places it in direct competition with these services.
Blinkit’s entry into rapid food delivery follows the recent success of Swish, a Bengaluru-based startup that raised USD 2 million in its first funding round, led by venture capital firm Accel. As the demand for instant deliveries continues to rise, companies are racing to meet customer expectations for speed and variety.
For Zomato, Blinkit's new offering is a critical part of its strategy to strengthen its foothold in the expanding quick-commerce market. As consumer demand grows and investor interest intensifies, businesses are increasingly focused on delivering faster and expanding their product offerings to maintain a competitive edge.
