Agnificent Platform Technologies (“APT”), which released the
Khel Now Platform in July 2016 aimed at sports fans and stakeholders across India and beyond, today announced that Thailand-based Indochine International Co. Ltd. (“Indochine”) has invested $500,000 in to the company.
Khel Now connects sports fans and other stakeholders – associations, leagues, teams, coaches, academies, fields, gyms, sporting brands, businesses, etc. – from around the world using relevant, timely, location-specific and crowd-sourced content and social networking. In just a few months after the launch aimed initially at football-fans and stakeholders, Khel Now has rapidly expanded to hosting tens of thousands of pages that have been accessed by hundreds of thousands of users across India and beyond. In that short span of time it has also signed partnerships with professional clubs and sports businesses as well as with local schools, academies, coaches and regional media outlets.
Khel Now intends to use Indochine’s investment along with Indochine’s vast network of partners across the ASEAN region to grow beyond India and South Asia. Not only will Khel Now continue to expand its football footprint into South East Asia, it is in the process of evaluating additional sports to bring on to the Platform such as tennis, basketball, badminton and even Thai martial arts such as Muay Thai.
According to reports, there are over one billion sports fans across the world in the 13-34 age range. While most of these fans spend a lot of time consuming sports content on a daily basis, a record number of them are going online to consume their favorite sports content via mobile devices and social networks. With Khel Now, APT has built the world’s first mobile social platform for sports that allow fans to contribute as well as consume sports-related content.
Dhruv Ratra, Co-Founder and CEO, Khel Now said: “Our rapid growth across India has shown the potential of the platform and the problem it is solving for users. South East Asian sports fans and businesses are just as passionate, if not more so, than their Indian counterparts. We have been evaluating the possibilities of expanding there, and are very happy that in Indochine we have found an investor and a partner who are willing to work with us in the region, as well as to take on an advisory role in our company.”
Speaking on the investment, Chaweewan Vian-Courtenay, Director of Communications, Indochine International Co. Ltd. said, “We have been working across ASEAN countries for quite some time and have noticed the passion for sports in the region. We have also consulted with sports businesses and noticed the opportunity for a sports-based social network that could connect and build online as well as offline communities around a common passion for sports. Khel Now is precisely the platform that can address this opportunity. While growing football users will continue at the same rapid rate, we will be working very closely with the team to evaluate binging on new sports and new users.”
Khel Now is available today on the
Google Play Store.
