Cladoop INC: Quantifying Children's Emotions & Behavior

What started off as a core technology startup in the Computer Vision and Robotics domain soon pivoted in solving some niche problems such as Human Behavior Analysis, Emotional Behavior Disorder prognosis and Attention measurement within the healthcare domain by using technologies that were restricted to mass usage.

Cladoop’s flagship APP - Attentient tries to solve the problem of misdiagnosis within ADHD by objectifying the measurement of Attention. This is done by using sophisticated data points/technologies such as EEG, Heart Rate, Skin Conducatance, Facial Expression, Head Motion and a CPT based Stimuli.

The Product and key Offerings
While most statistics point that 12-15 percent of children are affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the fact is that 40 percent of this number is misdiagnosed. It means that these children are treated with medications and therapies to treat a 'disorder' which doesn't exist in the first place.

The primary reason for misdiagnosis is due to lack of 'Objective Measurement' for ADHD. Currently, the assessment is based on some questionnaires and the opinion of the doctor who could be judgemental or biased. This is where Cladoop is aiming to bring a change. By working with top neuropsychologists and universities, they have developed a multi-modal attention measurement iPad app that relies on all-round measurement of attention using multiple inputs from interconnected medical grade Headband and Wristband

The APP uses FDA approved methods and is currently being piloted at Arizona State University and with some doctors in the USA. “The feedback has been phenomenal! There was a void of a portable and a scalable system within this space and we are glad that we were able to fill that gap” adds the co-founder, Muzammil. “The aim of making complicated technologies easier to use has been our motto forever and seeing people use it is what keeps motivating us to do more!”

Challenges Faced So Far

Penetrating in a market that relies a lot on subjectivity is a real challenge. Cladoop is questioning the status quo within the ADHD industry and this is where the real challenge lies. “It’s difficult to convince someone to change what they have been doing from the past 25 years. We focus a lot on case studies and pilots and approach doctors and hospitals with real data to convince them. Our conversations rely on Logic and Data and our world class panel of psychologists make our job easier as they speak the same language”

Competition In This Space
There are professional and medical grade systems that do a similar job but rely on a single modality for prognosis such as EEG only or Head Motion Only. Moreoever these systems are trauma inflicting which could skew the results plus they cost more than 10 times of what we intend to charge, no wonder that they are non existend in markets such as India and have only a 5% penetration within the ADHD market of USA.

These are legacy based systems that are non-scalable and relies heavily on hardware. A unit costs about 40 thousand USD whereas our system is hardware agnostic and all you need is an iPAD. The hardware – which is the Head Band and Wristband combined should not exceed more than 1500 USD.

Future Plans & Ideas
Our product is currently evolving as we are working with doctors to understand what their requirements are. We are in a position to start sales by early next year with a worldwide focus. Our customers would not include include hospitals but also have special schools. We also have plans to enter the education sector with our APP – Emotence which could have a service based model.
