Google Maps Getting ‘Ride Services’ Menu Entry

Google Maps’ latest beta version introduces a new menu entry called ‘Ride Services’ in the settings of the app, as per a report. The new Ride Services menu entry on Google Maps was originally reported by Android Police. This feature is available only in beta version 10.56.0 of the app and may still be in development stages as the report mentioned that there wasn’t any variation in fares when comparing ride-sharing results before and after activating the option. The price range was still huge and vague and the feature is not presently available in all regions and languages.

This feature will assist in getting standard and accurate fares by sending the route data from Google Maps to the ride-sharing company. Uber appears to be the only supported accomplice on this new feature’s setting. However, this default may occasionally vary throughout regions and additionally when the app develops further. This latest beta update brings the app up to 10.56.0. version.

To avail the feature, the user has to open the Google Maps app and sign in to their Google Account, search for the desired destination or tap it on the map then tap directions. Now, select the ‘rides’ option and choose the mode of travel and the required service which will lead the user to the service provider’s app. Lastly, follow the instructions on the app to finish your ride request.

Citing tipsters, the report noted that the latest beta version of Google Maps has also added building numbers and crosswalk markings for the users. This could be a part of a server-side change available for a limited number of cities that could roll out on earlier versions of Google Maps, for some. Screenshots in the report show that one can spot the building numbers and crosswalk markings by zooming in on streets in cities like New York.

In the meantime, Google Maps has introduced a new community feed feature in the Explore tab of the Google Maps app. This is a customized feature that shows the user the latest reviews, photos, and posts of events and places near them which are presented by the people and businesses one follows. The community feed feature aims to make it simpler to discover activities to do and places to explore in a specific region. It takes into account one’s interests, interprets the information, and offers the user content tailored to their preference. While the community feed is a great way to keep up with new developments, Google is also making it easier for businesses to directly interface with customers. Henceforth verified businesses can approach customers from the Google Maps app. Google said the addition of this feature was to allow customers to make more informed decisions regarding their actions like shopping, dining, etc. This new feature is rolling out globally to Android and iOS gadgets.
