Mydala’s Anisha: The Snags And Joys Of Being A Woman Entrepreneur

Mydala started in 2009, and I know it’s a weird name, but I love it. I guess that’s the sardari in me. We are a marketing platform that helps local businesses find the right users online and we also help provide savings to Mydala users on the business side.

Why and when was the company started?

Like I was saying we started in 2009 and at that particular point in time we felt that there was a real need in the market for something like Mydala. So we essentially became the bridge for local businesses taking them from offline to online.

What are the struggles you face as a woman entrepreneur?

Alright, so everybody faces struggles in business in general right, if you’re an entrepreneur you’re going to face struggles.

Does a woman face them more than a man? Absolutely. There’s no denying that. There’s still bias that exists. You come across people who doubt you, who question you and who will also judge you. Not just judge you…but even be perverted. So you’re going to get all sorts from the entire spectrum and it has been the same thing for me. The journey has been no different.

I wish I could say I am thick skinned and that it didn’t affect me. But it did. When I started Mydala I was pregnant and I was told I was too pregnant to be doing this. All sorts of bull… so you know, all sorts of rubbish. It’s not been easy.

But has it been a great learning experience and journey? Absolutely. It’s taught me a whole lot in terms of the person that I am. And it’s been great.

If I had to choose between not doing it and doing it, I’ll always, always, always choose becoming an entrepreneur.

And I love being a woman entrepreneur.

Mydala cofounder, Anisha Singh’s message to women is…

I only have one message. I keep saying it, and I’m going to say it again. If you’re thinking about doing anything. Starting a business or getting a job, DO IT NOW.

There is no better time. We women doubt ourselves constantly, but, do it. If you don’t, someone else will take your spot. So you know what?

Just go ahead and do it now.
