Oizom, an IoT Clean tech startup working in the domain of Air Quality Monitoring, is the only startup from India to be selected for SparkLabs IoT Accelerator. Oizom is an environmental solution company. Started with a life-centric approach, Oizom builds data-driven solutions for natural resources like air, water, soil, and energy. By evolving with technology and through extensive R&D, Oizom Instruments aspires to set a class apart in its measurement accuracy and precision. Their first product is Polludrone, a solar-powered IoT ambient air-quality monitoring system.
In an interaction with BW Disrupt’s Team, Ankit Vyas, CEO, Oizom shares his startup journey as well as the future plans of the company.
Business ModelCurrent Air-Quality Monitoring Solution is not scalable and sustainable because of exorbitant cost, space occupation, energy consumption and heavy operation cost. As a solution, Oizom's Polludrone is a fully solar powered low-cost ambient air-quality monitor. It fits in existing infrastructure (retrofit) and does not occupy any space and manpower. By installing Polludrones, the government authorities and smart cities will have a dense network of data points which will give them a pollution map of the city. Based on which they can take relevant infrastructure and policy level changes.
Oizom's Polludrone ecosystem can be easily integrated into the existing city infrastructure at a minimal cost. This is will disrupt the existing market of Ambient Air Quality Monitoring solution companies due to low cost, compact size, retrofit design and solar powered solution with a strong IT infrastructure.
Unique Key PointsOizom products are developed out of a clear need and absence of product solution in the market. Oizom’s Polludrone is the first fully solar powered IoT pollution monitor. Polludrone is the most cost effective, energy efficient and compact air pollution monitoring station. As a substitute of our product, government/private bodies are using BAM technology devices which are expensive, bulky in size, require high energy consumption and constant manpower.
Funding and RevenueOizon is a bootstrapped by the founders. Founded in November 2015, the company has a revenue of INR 60 Lakhs. Oizom is the only company selected for Sparklabs IoT and Smart City Accelerator program.
Challenges Faced
One of the major challenges we are currently facing is like of awareness about Air Pollution amongst the citizens. Air being an invisible medium people tend to ignore its importance. We are resolving the challenge through open source projects like Airowl, a DIY Air Quality Monitoring kit.
Another challenge that lies ahead of us is lack of introduction to the sensor based IoT technology. Currently all our valuators are using conventional methods of Air Quality Monitoring, implementing a new technology creates a bit of reluctance amongst the users.
Customers’ FeedbackWe have received great response from our primary valuators so far. Oizom was the only company from India under the cleantech domain to be selected for Hello Tomorrow Global Summit. We have also been the finalists in the IBM Smart City camp and Intel Innovate for Digital India.
Traction DetailsOizom has installed more than 40 polludrone across the nation. Our app Air Quality India, which shows air quality of your city, has more than 10,000 downloads.
Expansion PlansWe envisage to form alliances with Smart City execution companies and other green initiative companies to create a dense of Polludrone network which shall make our environment understandable and predictable.
Marketing PlansPolludrone targets smart city execution companies, industrial sector,
pollution control boards and industrial association boards
Biggest LearningsAfter developing so many products we learnt one thing that boosted our confidence to develop Polludrone. “An invention should be customer driven”. If there’s an invention that benefits the end user it is certain to succeed.
Market Size and OpportunityCurrent global air-pollution monitoring device market is $15 billion which is increasing by 7.5% CAGR. Where air-pollution monitoring device market in India only is $1 billion which is increasing at 10% CAGR.
