Safexpress on Becoming Fleet Leader in Indian Logistics

Safexpress was founded two decades back in 1997 by Pawan Jain, popularly known as the ‘Logistics Guru’. Rubal Jain took over the reins from his father in 2006. Since then, there has been no looking back for this undisputed leader in supply chain and logistics.

Because Safexpress has mapped the Indian geography so well, not only does it hold the distinction of being the fastest but the largest supply chain and logistics network in the country. The company covers all 22,110 pincodes in India and has a fleet of over 5000 GPS-enabled vehicles which traverse over 8 lakh kilometres every single day and operate 365 days a year on more than 1000 defined routes across the country, delivering more than 80 million packages every year.

Just in the last financial year, Safexpress’ turnover crossed Rs. 1600 crore.

Speaking of his strategy to keep Safexpress ahead of the curve, Rubal Jain, managing director of Safexpress says, “While customer centricity is our topmost priority, our focus on people is an essential aspect of our business philosophy. At Safexpress, we have focused heavily on developing and nurturing talent.”

Jain has been instrumental in setting up Safeducate, the skilling arm of Safexpress, launched in 2007. Jain says, “When I joined this industry, I realised that the prevalent skill gap was huge. To ensure that we turn that into a competitive advantage, we started our own skilling company. Today, it has turned out to be a big disruption in our industry.”

In logistics, speed and innovation of services is a critical differentiator. Jain says, “In our industry, you need to be permanently in touch with the market. Speed is the ultimate tool in our line of business. The fastest company in the market wins.”

Given this quest for innovation, the Managing Director has ensured continuous technological disruption at Safexpress way ahead of other logistics players. Jain led the rollout of an Oracle based ERP system for IT-enabled processes in operations and finance at Safexpress a decade back.

Jain says, “Recently, Safexpress became the first supply chain and logistics company in India to go live on Oracle Fusion Cloud. We adopted this technology, Oracle’s next-gen compliance and accounting solution, ahead of everyone and will help Safexpress ensure instant GST accounting.”

Elaborating how Safexpress was miles ahead in getting GST ready, Jain says, “We started preparing for GST ten years back. I could see the opportunity GST could bring into the business way back then. So we kickstarted a warehousing revolution in India in 2007 by developing our first logistics park at Nagpur.”

He continues about Safexpress’ warehousing capabilities, “Ten years back, we had announced that we will create 32 logistics parks all over India. A few days back, we launched our 32nd logistics park at Hyderabad. Now we have a total warehousing space of over 13 million square feet, which operate 24x7x365.”

With Jain’s mission to constantly keep evolving in order to take the business to the next level, Safexpress seems to be absolutely unstoppable.
