Huzzpa is in the Process of “Digitizing & Democratizing” the Traditional Interior Design Industry

Founded in December 2014 by Lisa Mohapatra, Bangalore-based Huzzpa was started because of opaque structure of the interior design system - furniture markups, secrecy about commission, new designers finding it difficult to gain access to clients, budget consumers to be able to find and afford interior designers. The goal is to change the interior design industry by making premium design services available to everyone, residential and commercial, no matter the budget.

Huzzpa pairs upcoming interior designers with clients based on taste & preferences. It matches consumers as per their "Taste/Style" with the right designers who offer design recommendations virtually. Customers take a quiz on design/taste and enter their details to reveal their style preferences. The system then runs an algorithm at the back end and matches them with designers best suited to their style preferences. The matched designers then compete for a customer’s project by creating a Moodboard which is essentially a digital mockup of how they would style the room tailored to a customer’s budget.

The product Huzzpa with features like client-designer matching, mood boarding to client servicing where technology is breaking a totally bespoke, offline experience, is first of its kind in the country. In the words of Lisa ( the founder) – “We are in the process of “Digitizing & Democratizing” the traditional interior design industry!!”

Lisa Mohapatra is the founder of Huzzpa. She has close to 10 years of work experience cut across technology & Marketing functions. Her experience is unique in terms of working for tech giants like SAP, Cognizant on one hand & marquee retailer Lifestyle International on the other. She is an engineer from N.I.T, Rourkela and MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur.

Few differences that Huzzpa brings to the table as compared to other players –

“ 1. Our services are available at an extremely affordable price point. We do not believe in up selling, we bring in a transparent approach to pricing & providing the best within customer’s budget.

2. Customer empathy is a core to our startup and each one of us here believes in an unparalled customer service.

3. We are in the process of democratizing the interior design process, so if there are a lot of design partners & execution partners (curated), the prices become automatically competitive & people compete to deliver the best.”

The startup has executed close to 50 projects in the last 6 months and are growing organically with word of mouth.

“We are a lean 10 people very passionate & young team sharing a grand vision of making every home unique & beautiful – one that represents the identity of the owner! The industry is indeed very challenging due to simple reason of the nature of the sector – very varied & fragmented. But, there lies the opportunity too to fix some of the real problems,” added Lisa.
