Lawyer Search and Discovery platform that was founded in August-2015 by Mohit Nayar, Kunal Narain and Neeraj Rai.
LawyersOfIndia operates through a unique free search and contact model thereby giving access to a vast knowledge and research repository of specialist Lawyers to the public in India.
The startup is
totally free to use for the public and the lawyers alike. Some legal tech websites are giving ratings and reviews to lawyers which is completely prohibited by the Bar Council of India. LawyersOfIndia provides only the information that the BCI has explicitly allowed in its 2008 Statement. Unlike other legal tech platforms, it don't hide the contact details of the lawyers from the public to facilitate an appointment booking process.
Allahabad based Lawyersofindia.com is trying to help Indians search for a specialized Lawyer at the click of a button.
In an exclusive interaction with Sujata Sangwan of BWDisrupt, Mohit Nayar, Co-Founder, LawyersOfIndia, shares the journey of his venture.
How was it Started: Mohit Nayar and Kunal Narain were discussing the problems that are being faced by the legal sector. What came out of the discussion was the fact that there was no way through which a person could search for a specialized Lawyer in a particular area of practice.
The research for the website started the same day and we launched the platform about three months later. We were later joined by Neeraj Rai as another Co-Founder.
Market Size & Opportunity: The Indian legal sector is completely different from the world. Lawyers are not allowed to fully advertise and the quality of legal help varies significantly. With the number of pending cases landing into crores, and the number of legal practitioners being somewhere around 1.5 Million we were surprised to see such an unorganized sector. There are hardly any credible platforms which connect the public to the Lawyers who specialize in that particular area of expertise. We thought that something has to be done about that and that's how Lawyers Of India came into being.
Differentiation: The biggest difference that we believe exists between us and other legal tech platforms is that
we allow an advocate to mention not more than 5 Areas of Expertise (Specializations) in his profile. This allows us to provide the best lawyer for a particular type of case to our clients. Also, we have provided several filters to weed out results that do not fall under that category.
Another difference is that
we do not make any bogus claims about rating or reviewing Lawyers like several other platforms. There is absolutely no way a startup can judge the credibility of a professional and neither is it allowed by the Bar Council of India.
Also, our platform is completely open from end to end. The users can find a lawyer that suits them and then contact them at their own will.
Traction: Currently we
have over 2000 Lawyers registered on our platform from 35 different Cities. We also have crossed Rs.2 Lakh in revenue from our platform which we earn by giving lawyer premium memberships. Through these memberships we enable lawyers to understand how people are interacting with their profiles and also connect them to the inquiries if we receive them.
