Matrix Partners’ India arm will be rebranded as Z47, while its China arm will become MPC, starting next month. According to media reports, the rebranding aims to emphasise the distinct local strategies of each fund.
Inspired by India's projected development journey towards 2047, the new name highlights the nation's founders and digital ecosystem. Matrix Partners India confirmed that there will be no operational changes to their existing funds or early-stage, founder-focused strategy.
Matrix Partners, known for backing unicorns like Ola, Ola Electric, Krutrim AI, Razorpay, OfBusiness, Oxyzo, Dailyhunt, and Five Star Finance, said the change reflects responsiveness to regional market dynamics. This move follows the trend of local independence, similar to Sequoia Capital's rebranding of its India arm as Peak XV.
The firm, which operates independently from Matrix in the US, will unveil a new website and brand elements soon. The US operations will continue under the Matrix name with headquarters in Boston and San Francisco.
