Uber, the smartphone app that connects riders with drivers to provide convenient, reliable and affordable rides at the push of a button, today hosted an event to honour Uber’s top driver partners and encourage ex-servicemen to avail entrepreneurship opportunities as driver partners. Some of the more than 400 people present were ex-servicemen as well as beneficiaries of Uber’s driver training and skill development initiative, UberSHAAN.
Speaking at the event, Travis Kalanick, Founder and CEO, Uber, said “UberSHAAN helps ex-servicemen and all others get onboard the Uber platform by providing them entrepreneurial opportunities. This program is all about empowering these individuals to support their families and provide an opportunity for people to get to know India’s veterans better.”
To recognise and provide post retirement economic opportunities to our brave ex-servicemen, Uber has partnered with the Ministry of Defence to facilitate the onboarding of interested personnel onto the Uber platform as driver entrepreneurs.
Travis met other top driver-partners as well as the graduating batch from Uber’s on-going partnership with Maruti’s driver training program. Uber runs a customized program built from the ground up to recognise the customer service excellence provided by top driver-partners and helps them grow their business, reduce their overall operating costs and provide health benefits to them and their families.
