Zomato is set to launch a new app, District, aimed at transforming the way consumers engage in going-out activities.
The app will integrate Zomato’s existing dining-out services and expand into new areas such as movies, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping and staycations.
Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal emphasised the app's potential, stating, “Building a one-stop destination app for going out could be a game changer for each of these use cases. If we execute this well, we see going-out becoming the third large B2C business emerging out of Zomato.”
He states, "Our dining-out business which helps our customers discover restaurants when they want to go out and dine at restaurants. This dining-out business is now operating at a run-rate of $500m+ annualised GOV and is already profitable."
The District app builds on Zomato's successful dining-out business, which is operating at a run rate exceeding USD 500 million in annualized Gross Order Value (GOV). This strategic move is set to position Zomato as a major player in the going-out sector, competing with established platforms like BookMyShow. The initiative reflects Zomato's broader goal of expanding its services beyond food delivery and quick commerce.
In addition, Zomato is in discussions to acquire Paytm's movies and ticketing business, further solidifying its foray into the going-out market.
