AWS Launches Inaugural Space Accelerator Program In India For 24 Startups

The accelerator, supported by T-Hub and Minfy, will offer startups specialised AWS training and mentorship from space and technical experts

AWS has unveiled its inaugural space accelerator program in India, selecting 24 startups for a 14-week journey of growth and innovation. This initiative aims to provide these startups with technical expertise, mentorship, and AWS credits worth up to USD 100,000.

Selected startups include a launch vehicle and sustainable satellite firm from Tamil Nadu, an advanced geospatial analysis company from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and a precision farming enterprise from Gujarat. This diverse group will participate in the AWS Space Accelerator: India, a program tailored to foster space technology startups.

“This is the fourth consecutive year that AWS has run a Space Accelerator program, but the first one we’ve tied to one specific country,” said Clint Crosier, Director of the Aerospace and Satellite business at AWS. “We specifically chose to hold this first country-focused space accelerator in India, because we see extraordinary growth opportunities in the India space sector. There are a record number of new Indian space startups forming, there is strong support from the Government of India as evidenced by our MoU with ISRO and IN-SPACe, and India has some of the best educated and proficient talent in the world in the technical areas that encompass space.”

The accelerator, supported by T-Hub and Minfy, will offer startups specialised AWS training and mentorship from space and technical experts. It is a result of the MoU AWS signed with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in 2023.

Startups were selected based on criteria such as innovation, product-market fit, sustainability, and creative use of AWS technology. The program will also provide knowledge on go-to-market strategies, fundraising, and business fundamentals.

The 24 startups, operating in various space segments including spacecraft propulsion, orbital vehicles, and geospatial applications, will explore leveraging space data and building scalable solutions using AWS technologies like Generative AI and Machine Learning.
