Elon Musk’s xAI Raises $6 Bn In Series C Round From BlackRock, Nvidia, AMD, Others

The latest funding round follows a similar USD 6 billion Series B round just six months ago, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and others

xAI, the artificial intelligence firm co-founded by Elon Musk, has secured USD 6 billion in a Series C funding round, attracting key investors such as A16Z, BlackRock, and Sequoia Capital. Strategic investors NVIDIA and AMD also participated, the company announced in a blog post on December 24.

The funds will bolster xAI’s AI infrastructure, including the rollout of its Grok language model and Colossus supercomputer. Additionally, the company plans to enhance its offerings for enterprise and consumer markets, building on recent innovations like Grok 2 and Aurora, its AI-powered image generation model.

"This funding will enable xAI to push boundaries in developing next-generation AI solutions with the potential to transform industries," the company stated.

The latest funding round follows a similar USD 6 billion Series B round just six months ago, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and others. While xAI did not disclose its valuation, earlier reports suggested it could range between USD 18 billion and USD 24 billion during the Series B round.

xAI’s origins are tied to Musk’s social platform X (formerly Twitter), where it played a key role in creating the Grok AI service.
