Rohan Mirchandani, Co-founder of Epigamia, one of India’s Greek yogurt brands, passed away on December 21 due to cardiac arrest. He was 42. The news was confirmed in an official statement from Drums Food International, Epigamia's parent company.
A graduate of NYU Stern and The Wharton School, Mirchandani founded Drums Food International in 2013. Under his leadership, the company transitioned from Hoki Poki ice cream to launching Epigamia, which has become a popular name in the yogurt and dairy segment. With a presence in over 30 cities and more than 20,000 retail touchpoints, the company was gearing up to expand into the Middle East by 2025-26.
Epigamia’s senior leadership, led by Ankur Goel (COO and founding member) and Uday Thakker (co-founder and director), will continue to oversee operations. The board, along with Mirchandani’s family and key investors such as Verlinvest and DSG Consumer Partners, has expressed its full support for the company’s plans moving forward.
The board described Mirchandani as a visionary whose efforts shaped the brand’s growth and impact. They have committed to working closely with the leadership team to honor his legacy.
Known for his innovative mindset, Mirchandani often cited his inspiration during a business school lecture in Mumbai, which spurred him to address the lack of innovation in India’s FMCG space. His focus on growth included scaling Epigamia’s revenue to Rs 250 crore by FY25 and tapping into the quick commerce sector.
Mirchandani’s passing follows recent losses in the Indian startup ecosystem, including Pepperfry Co-founder Ambareesh Murty and Good Capital’s Rohan Malhotra, marking another blow to the entrepreneurial community.
