According to media reports, Flipkart has introduced a platform fee of Rs 5 on its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes, as well as a Rs 3 fee on its main ecommerce platform. The new fees exclude Flipkart Grocery and its travel vertical, Cleartrip.
The move reportedly brings Flipkart in line with other quick commerce players, including Swiggy’s Instamart, Zomato’s Blinkit, and Zepto, all of which charge handling fees. According to media reports, the fee structure also mirrors that of Myntra, Flipkart’s fashion arm, which has had a similar system in place.
Flipkart’s new fees coincide with a renewed push into the quick commerce space, according to sources cited by the media. The platform is currently operational in select pin codes, offering 8-16 minute delivery services.
This positions Flipkart to better compete with rivals like Amazon, which currently does not impose any platform fees, according to reports.
According to media reports, this development comes as Flipkart aims to continue driving international sales for its parent company, Walmart.
The company delivered double-digit growth with improving margins in the recent quarter.
