India Accelerator (IA) has launched RUMS (Robotics, Unmanned & Space), a new vertical dedicated to supporting startups in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Counter-Drone Systems, Ground Robots, and Space Technologies, according to media reports. This initiative aims to foster innovation and growth in these high-potential industries.
RUMS, recognised as India’s first dedicated accelerator for the Robotics and Unmanned ecosystem, plans to invest USD 8 to USD 10 million in early-stage startups through its partner entity, Finvolve. Leading the initiative is Lt Gen Anil Chait, a former Indian Army veteran with 40 years of experience in operations and disaster relief, media reports suggest.
As part of its launch, IA invested nearly USD 1 million in a Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup developing advanced air defence systems. This investment underscores IA’s vision to build a robust ecosystem for Robotics and UAS startups in India.
According to media reportts, by January 2024, IA had supported 225 startups, with two-thirds successfully raising follow-on funding and a 33 per cent exit rate, achieving six times return on investments over the past six years. IA also focuses on other niches like Energy & Mobility, Circular Economy, Sustainable Development, Generative AI, and Media Entertainment & Gaming.
