Instagram on Wednesday (26 April) announced that it has now 700 million active users. The company added 100 million users in just four months since hitting the 600 million mark in December last year, while it took six months to go from 500 million to 600 million.
“We’re thrilled to announce that our community has grown to more than 700 million Instagrammers. And the last 100 million of you joined faster than ever,” the company announced in a blog post.
We’ve made it even easier for people across the globe to join the Instagram community, share their experiences and strengthen connections with their friends and passions. With new features like stories, live video and disappearing messages in Direct, people now have more ways than ever to express themselves and feel closer to what matters to them,” the company added.
Instagram was bought by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion. Like Facebook’s other properties such as FB Messenger and Whatsapp, it might also join the 1 billion users club soon.
