OpenAI Hires Twitch's Emmett Shear As Interim CEO, Sam Altman Will Not Return As CEO: Report

In a surprising turn of events, Sam Altman will not be returning as the CEO of OpenAI, despite efforts from the company's executives to persuade him. 

According to media reports, Altman's dramatic departure is linked to conflicts with the board over the pace of OpenAI's transformation from a nonprofit to a commercially viable business, with concerns about the safety implications of generative AI technology.

The report further reveals that Emmett Shear, co-founder of the video streaming site Twitch, is set to take over as the interim CEO, as announced by co-founder and board director Ilya Sutskever. Altman, who has been a prominent figure in the realm of generative AI, was ousted due to a perceived lack of candor in his communications and clashes with board members who were uneasy about the rapid progression of the company's initiatives without sufficient consideration for the safety implications of their technology.  

The news of Altman's exit comes shortly after he posted a picture with a guest card at the OpenAI offices, stating that it would be the 'first and last time' he wears one of those cards. The situation remains fluid, with uncertainties surrounding the roles of Altman and Brockman in the company's future.
