Tupperware India to Eliminate Single-Use Plastic from Its Product Packaging

Tupperware India will eliminate all single-use plastic material from its manufacturing process from 1st October 2019 onwards. 100% recyclable paper-based compostable packaging material to be used for all future manufacturing. Transportation and storage tests are done across India and overseas, including humid countries like Brazil and Indonesia to evaluate the viability of new material, with this transformation, Tupperware India will absorb 7% increase in the cost of manufacturing.

Speaking about the anti-SUP initiative, Mr Deepak Chhabra, Managing Director, Tupperware India, said, " We are pleased to see that our consistent effort towards eliminating the use of SUP, has found a strong voice in the government, with Hon'ble PM, giving out a clarion call on the elimination of SUP from India. Today, there is huge awareness around the need to switch over from SUP to environmentally friendly alternatives. Our global vision "No time to waste" is also aimed at significantly reducing plastic and food waste through product innovation, packaging reduction, operational goals and strategic partnerships."

Sharing details regarding the elimination of single-use plastic packaging and adoption of 100% recyclable paper-based compostable packaging material, he added, "Tupperware invests heavily into research and development and we settle for nothing but the best. Be it the selection of raw material, our design methodology, high precision moulds or the ultimate packaging, every nuance is given due importance. After thorough research, pilot projects and stringent testing, we are glad to announce that we will switch to 100% recyclable paper-based compostable packaging material from 1st of October 2019."

The new packaging will keep the product safe in extreme climatic conditions across locations, including warehouses, point of sale outlets and even in transit. The packaging is food contact safe, humidity-proof and will protect the products from dust and scratches throughout the logistics cycle.
