Post the rape threats to Delhi University student, Gurmehar Kaur on social media, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has planned to soon launch an app, 'I am Trolled' for women where they are threatened with physical violence on social media.
"The app will be launched for physical threats and trolling not only for verbal abuse, as women are equally abusive on social media as men,” said Ms. Maneka Gandhi,
Union Minister of Women and Child development (WCD) while inaugurating a day long conclave on women’s well-being organized by
FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO).
“The much delayed 'Women's panic button' with a feature called the 'Shouting App' will also become operational by end of this March as most of the mobile hardware companies are working on it to add the feature. Even old mobiles will be able to add the feature in their existing phones. As soon as distressed women will press the panic button, the mobile phone will also activate the 'shouting app' which will alert the nearest 10 mobile phones, and hopefully fellow citizens can come to her help before the police arrives," said Ms. Gandhi.
"The WCD ministry will also set up more centers with call number 1098 in various parts of country starting with Bangalore like the one already set up in Gurugram, which receives about four lakh calls for missing children across the nation. This is equipped with an online system which can trace the calling child within hours and take care of the child in distress," the minister added.
