Who Will Drive Uber?
Travis Kalanick stepped down as the CEO of $ 6.5 Billion car transportation and technology firm Uber amidst pressure from the board members. Kalanick resigned from the post on June 21 and since then, the company is eager to find the right person who could lead the company.
“I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight,” Kalanick said in a statement to the New York Times.
According to the international news sources, there are many contenders for the post of Uber CEO after co-founder Travis Kalanick resigned. People have speculating names of probable contenders as CEO of Uber.
Sheryl Sandberg
According to New York Post, Uber may approach Sandberg to fill in the top seat. Kalanick, though will keep his seat in the Uber board. However, Sandberg has not given any confirmations yet and sources close to her have said that she might choose to carry on with Facebook.
Sandberg joined Google in 2001 and served as the President of Global Online Sales and Operations till 2008. In 2008, she was hired by Facebook for the position of COO.
Thomas Staggs
According to international sources, Former COO of Disney had also been named among the frontrunners in the race for new CEO of Uber. Staggs joined Disney in 1990 as a manager of strategic planning. In 2000, he rose to the position of Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Staggs lead the acquisition of Pixar for $ 7.4 Billion in 2006 and also the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment for $ 4 Billion in 2009. In 2015, Staggs was named as the Chief Operating Officer of the Walt Disney.
Marissa Mayer
Mayer recently resigned as CEO of Yahoo, on June 13, after it was sold to Verizon. She joined Yahoo in 2012. Mayer joined Google in 1999 as an engineer after graduating from Stanford; she has held many positions in Google since then. Before joining Yahoo, she was the head of Maps, Local and Location Services.
Uber has been suffering from scandals and non-performance issues since quite a few months now. Kalanick's resignation was seemingly an outcome of the board's vulnerability to tackle the situation. It may be interesting now to see how the new boss handles things at the world's largest taxi service company.
Mark Fields
Former CEO of Ford Motor Company Mark Fields joined Ford back in 1989 and have decades of experience in the automobile sector. He moved up the ranks and became the President and CEO of Ford’s subsidiary Mazda Motor Corporation in Japan. Fields was named the President and CEO of Ford Motors in 2014. He was recently replaced by James Hackett as the CEO of the company.
Susan Wojcicki
Susan became CEO of Google’s YouTube in 2014 and has been a part of Google from very long time. She was the first marketing manager for Google. Wojcicki lead Google’s $ 1.65 Billion acquisition of Youtube which has a worth of $ 90 Billion.
