As per media reports, Gunjan Soni, an independent director on Zomato's board, has stepped down from her position, effective immediately. The Gurugram-based company confirmed her resignation in an exchange filing.
In her resignation email, Soni indicated that she is stepping down as an independent director due to her increasing professional commitments, effective at the end of business hours on October 11, 2024. She also noted that she will be resigning from her positions on the risk management and corporate social responsibility committees.
According to media reports, Soni reflected on her time with Zomato, expressing gratitude for the partnership with the team and board members over the past three years. She noted that stepping down was a challenging decision but necessary due to her increased commitments. Soni conveyed her confidence in Zomato’s management and its future trajectory.
In response to her resignation, Zomato's founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal acknowledged the valuable contributions Soni made during her tenure. As per media reports, he expressed appreciation for her insights, stating, "Partnering with Gunjan has been a privilege, and her guidance has been crucial for our growth. While her presence on the board will be missed, we respect her decision and wish her success in her future endeavors."
Soni currently serves as the CEO of Zalora Group, a fashion retailer focused on Southeast Asia, and has held senior positions at Myntra, Jabong, Star India, and McKinsey. She joined Zomato's board before the company's IPO in July 2021.
