Grocery Not Delivering For Zomato

Foodtech startup, Zomato, is planning to shut its newly launched grocery delivery service, Zomato Market within two months of its launch.

The startup had recently announced its business expansion in 80 plus cities in the country. Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato in a company blog post in April this year had said that the company’s delivery network was only second to India Post and that the company is putting every effort to make sure that they are put to good use to serve the community. The company’s number of delivery partners has grown from 74,000 in September 2018 to 2.3 lakh in September last year, a tweet by Goyal had said.

Zomato’s arch-enemy Swiggy had also expanded its existing grocery business to over 125 cities to deliver essential goods in partnership with companies which include HUL, P&G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Vishal Mega Mart, Adani Wilmers, Cipla etc.

Currently, Zomato is in talks with restaurants to improve their business by offering its customers exclusive deals which are disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company has also doubled on liquor delivery and is now providing services of home delivery of liquor in states including West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.
