Goa based startup, Roadhouse Hostels has raised an undisclosed amount of investment from Indian Angel Network, touted as Asia’s largest network of Angel Investors. Ambarish Raghuvanshi and Vikas Kuthiala have led this round of investment and will be joining the board of the company.
Roadhouse Hostels is a chain of backpackers’ hostel with a cool retro vibe. The company was started by a group of school friends in 2014 with their first hostel starting its operations in Goa in November the same year. The Roadhouse team is a bunch of friends who connected way back in late 90s and later stumbled upon this idea of a hostel chain in India. The three have personalized the hostel by creating amazing artworks and designs.
“Our journey began with our passion for traveling as we all strongly believed all that a backpacker really needs is to explore the world with decent comforts and a lively audience. It was a beginning of that idea and the dream to give our country a hostel with International feel and standards that we came up with Roadhouse Hostels. We understand the needs of a traveller quite precisely and so we provide exactly the same look and feel of a place that they would prefer staying at. IAN is amazingly structured and has guided us extensively throughout the process. We look forward to a long and a fruitful association with them.” said Uday Jhamb, Co-Founder at Roadhouse Hostels.
Presently Roadhouse is operational in Goa and Jaipur and the team is looking forward to add 5 more cities in near future. Apart from setting up new properties the funds will be used to build the brand, setup an extremely passionate team and infuse technology to support the venture and also an extended service for travelers.
Commenting on the investment, lead IAN investor Ambarish Raghuvanshi said, The “backpacker space is seeing a lot of interest from founders and investors. However, the key will be to build an organisation model to replicate many such hostels and to deliver superior and consistent service. We invested when they had a hostel in Goa. They now have one in Jaipur. More importantly, I feel that with their passion and complementary skills, they have a real chance to build an organisational structure that will help create a network and community of past and potential users. Our investment will be used to roll out a network of hostels in India and to hire the right people to supplement the current team. IAN takes an active role in the investments it makes and as a Lead Investor, I look forward to working with the team and the Co-Lead Investors (Vikas Kuthiala and Rajeev Arora) on this challenging and interesting idea”
