OYO Changes Check-in Rules, Bars Unmarried Couples

The new rules came into effect on January 1, 2025, starting from Meerut, UP and could potentially expand to other cities based on feedback

OYO has brought a significant change in its check-in policy, starting with its partner hotels in Meerut. Under the revised guidelines, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check into OYO-affiliated properties in the city, PTI reported. The new rules came into effect on January 1, 2025, and could potentially expand to other cities based on feedback.

As per the updated policy, couples will be required to provide valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in, even for online bookings. OYO has also given its partner hotels the discretion to decline couple bookings based on local social sensibilities and their judgment.

According to the report, the policy change follows repeated feedback from civil society groups in Meerut urging OYO to address concerns regarding unmarried couple stays. Similar requests have also emerged from residents in other cities.

OYO emphasised that this initiative is part of its broader effort to rebrand itself as a provider of safe and family-friendly hospitality. The company aims to cater to a wide range of travelers, including families, students, solo travelers, business professionals, and religious tourists, while addressing concerns raised by communities.
