Women Entrepreneurs Working In The Time Of Pandemic To Help Underserved

The impact of the pandemic has been unimaginable, especially in the underserved and vulnerable sections of society. Lakhs of people are struggling for their daily survival needs and safety kits to protect themselves from the virus. Women entrepreneurs have today taken up the mantle of making basic necessities available for the underserved section of the society. For most of these women entrepreneurs working for the underserved section of the society have been an ongoing task, however, during the COVID outbreak, with the last mile of the society crumbling under financial duress, social entrepreneurship has become more important than ever. Here are some women who are going an extra mile in the time of pandemic to help vulnerable families:

Mandeep Kaur Sidhu

A motivational speaker, trainer, and social entrepreneur by profession, Mandeep Kaur Sidhu is also the founder of a series of ventures -  Simbacart, SimbaQuartz, and NGO Smiles Care. Mandeep not only believes in bringing profitability to the businesses but also believes in giving back to society. During the COVID period via her ventures, she has not only ensured that people employed with her are given a raise and not laid off but via her NGO she is running several campaigns to support the vulnerable sections of the society and also offers food to the families in different parts of Punjab.

Nivedita DasGupta

Nivedita DasGupta is the India Country Head for Miracle Foundation, a Not for Profit organization that aims at finding a loving family for every orphaned child.  In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Miracle Foundation India has extended financial assistance to Child Care Institutes (CCIs) for supporting the vulnerable and orphaned children. CCIs and Miracle Foundation will be jointly working to provide such children and their families with sufficient supplies, once they shift out of CCIs as per the guidance of the Govt authorities to ensure their overall health and wellbeing during the COVID period.

Suman Singh

Taking an initiative to help out poor villagers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Suman Singh who runs a craft center in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district is making self-made face masks for protection against novel coronavirus and is distributing them free of cost in the rural areas. Her selfless act has won people’s hearts in the region.

Lakshmi Menon

She is a social entrepreneur from Kerala, who has initiated a project relevant for these pandemic times. Titled coVeed for COVID, from her social enterprise Pure Living, (where veedu translates into a home in Malayalam), it aims to foster a sense of co-existence among the community by sharing what we have and feeling good about doing something worthwhile.

Devita Saraf

An Indian entrepreneur, the founder, and CEO of VU Technologies who has donated her one month’s salary to the cause of providing food and basic amenities to the underprivileged amidst COVID-19 lockdown. She has donated to a friend who is raising money to make food and medicine packets available for daily wage workers and homeless people in Mumbai.
